Research & Associations

A curated selection of research pieces that will help you learn more about the science and eco-friendly nature of solar shading products

Explore research on the effectiveness of solar shading and discover the numerous benefits it brings

At James Robertshaw, we do our research. It’s one of the ways we remain confident in our ability to promote sustainable practices in the blind and awning manufacturing trade. Here we’ve collated a selection of materials we know you’ll find useful when learning more about solar shading and energy efficiency.

As well as collecting and sharing useful resources on these topics, we’re also involved in some primary research activities with industry partners, like The BBSA, Energy House 2.0, and Shade It. We encourage you to dive deep into the material links found on this page and check out our associated partners. There is a wealth of learning to do and the whole industry can benefit from shared knowledge and peer support.

Each year, a few thousand office buildings across five UK cities waste enough energy to power over 100,000 homes, resulting in £60 million in unnecessary energy bills for businesses, according to studies by Green Alliance. This energy wastage also has a significant climate impact, generating emissions equivalent to 46,000 cars annually.
