The Best Teams Learn from Each Other

I’ve long observed that great things happen when you bring together the ideas, dedication and skills of two or more different generations in the workplace. One of our most important assets is our close-knit team built on exactly that – and I can honestly say we’ve benefitted from the results.

What helps to push our team further – aside from simply learning from one another – is ongoing education and training. We’re happy to invest in and challenge every individual to see them to grow and go beyond any limitations they may have given themselves. The outcome is something that both the company and the individual can be proud of.

To that end, I’d like to highlight the accomplishments of Craig Sellers – who has worked for JR for 13 years. During that period, Craig has gone on to acquire all the production skills within our portfolio, as well as completing IOSH Managing Safely – a qualification which makes him one of the best qualified employees regarding health and safety. But Craig hasn’t stopped there. He’s taken on board the JR value of challenge and growth to gain a BTec Level 2 Managing Team Performance qualification, and will be undertaking further in service training to improve his leadership skills.

Achieving my BTEC level 2…has taken hard work and dedication, but it's definitely been worth it.” Craig Sellers

James Robertshaw thrives on the experience and expertise of the team. It's something we want to actively share and pass on to the next generation, whilst inviting new ideas and insight. We recently welcomed nineteen-year-old Martin Nuamah to the team as an apprentice. Skateboarding fan Martin will be training as a surveyor, learning alongside the manufacturing and installation skills we have on offer.

Martin-Martin

Helping Martin on his apprenticeship journey will be both his surveying mentor, Martin Latham, and Craig who will be responsible for his factory-based training. This is an opportunity not only for Martin to gain his own qualifications, but also for his mentors to learn more about supporting apprenticeships and gleaning new ideas from Martin. In this instance, individuals at different stages of their careers are coming together to propel our business forward.

Everyday has been a totally different experience and I’m learning a lot whilst out and about with Martin. I’m also looking forward to learning some factory skills and further widening my skill set.” Martin Nuamah

2017 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the JR team as we continue to grow and learn from one another, and I’m personally very proud of what we’ll be able to achieve over the next twelve months. We will continue to add to our collection of video case studies. These are valuable for both our clients and our staff.

"When manufacturing product in the factory, I don’t always see the finished article. It was really good to see the Yorkshire Gastro Pub completed (W series with retractable roof) and I took great pride in seeing the quality of the team’s workmanship." Craig Sellers
